So I signed up for EZ-Pass on August 19th. I ordered four transponders. Two weeks later, one arrived in the mail. Today I call to ask about the status of the tags. I’m still on hold, as it disconnects me every 20 minutes.

So I look up posted transactions. One of the tags that I don’t have was used to go through tolls to Delaware twice last weekend.

Firstly, who the fuck steals something for 8 goddamn dollars? Secondly, I go to report the tags I’ve never received as stolen. Guess what? They charge $9 for each tag you report as stolen. What the fuck?

I’m ready to strangle someone. I don’t want to report them as stolen before I can actually speak to someone and sort out this business with the tolls and the fees for lost tags.

ETA: I finally got through to a very helpful representative who said they'd ship out three replacements and reverse the charges on the stolen tags. Still, ughhhhh.

Wow, what state is issuing those ez-passes? I ask as VA resident who owns an EZ-Pass from NY. I picked it up on vacation as VA at the time wanted to charge me a monthly “convenience” fee for having one.

Sign up in Mass, transponders are free, no monthly fee, easy to get a hold of someone if there’s an issue. I might just send ‘em back and work on your Boston accent.

NJ. There’s a $1 monthly “convenience fee” here as well.

Bleah, I would be tempted to send them all back and a make a short roadtrip to a place that doesn’t have that fee. I’m not sure if PA does but last time I looked you could get the Ez-pass out of a vending machine at their travel plazas.

I remember that too and almost did that, but I’m way too lazy to go to a turnpike toll plaza. :/

We've gone to the small RFID foil tape. Works great and replacements are free.

The worst part was that the system automatically disconnected me after every 20 minutes on hold. I’m never ever rude to anyone who works customer service, because that’s a terrible job, but I was already preparing to ask whoever picked up of I could speak to their boss, so I could have someone to curse and yell at.

NJ either has giant interior tags or license plate tags. I'm not sure if the license plate tags are as large, because those were two of the three stolen tags.

The license plate tags may be like ours, about the size of a bandaid except we stick them to the inside of our windshield.

That doesn’t sound bad.

I'm really hesitant to use the interior tags in my Jag. The previous owner had tint installed, and even though I'm ambivalent about window tint, I'm not eager stick an adhesive on it.

EZ-Pass is a legal criminal syndicate.

Only reason I got an E-ZPass in VA was after the governor did away with the monthly service fee

Had a similar issue returning an old tag once, we put it in the foil wrapper, but it still triggered the EZPass tolls when the truck carrying them went through. Had pictures of the truck going through when we asked for vehicle verification.

Yeah, I try to be as nice as possible to CS agents, event if I’m pissed I’ll stay calm and just explain myself and they’re usually pretty sympathetic, but there are times when you do just need to get a higher up on the horn to get your point across.

Last month my wife and i took separate trips in opposite directions. usually i just move the ezpass from car to car, but since we needed two, i picked up one at the grocery store and added it to my account. get to the first toll booth on PA turnpike, light doesn’t come on. i figure the light doesn’t work. get to the next and decide to go through the cash or ezpass lane. if it works, the gate should go up. nothing happens. i scrounge enough change to get through, find a wide shoulder to pull over and log on to ezpass website on my tablet. new tag is on the account but shows no activity. too late in the day to call ezpass. i stop at the next rest stop to get more cash (i’m towing so i don’t know how much more the tolls will be). pay the rest of my tolls with cash and get to my destination in NJ. Called ezpass the next morning, person on phone thinks tag is defective and says she’ll mail me another. Great, so more cash tolls on the way home. spend my 2 days in NJ and leave. Get to the ben franklin bridge and figuring the ezpass doesn’t work, i go to a cash lane. they only have ezpass no cash or cash, not both. idiot at the booth horribly overcharges me for the toll. She says she doesn’t know how much my truck weighs and wants to see my registration. I told her it’s only 2 weeks old so i only have the MV50. she stares at me like a deer in headlights. I told her that’s a temporary reg. I said it’s a half-ton ram. weighs 5200 lbs. Trailer is reg for 7000, actually weighs 5800 as is with load. I’m looking at the schedule of fees posted. should be about 12 bucks. she charges me $23.50. that’s the rate for a semi. i told her she overcharged me, so she has to call her supervisor. sat there for 5 minutes without anyone answering her phone call. I finally yell at her “can i just pay my damn get out of NJ tax and go?” no i’m all mad for the next hour until i get to the turnpike. just for the heck of it, i try a cash or ezpass lane. it works! now i’m happy it works, but even more pissed off that i didn’t have to deal with that idiot at the NJ border! And i also have an extra ezpass, because that one came in the mail the next day.
